Keep Off-Highway Vehicle Use Fun by Keeping It Safe

Latest News

Off-highway vehicles, including all- terrain vehicles, can add adventure and fun to outdoor activities. But because using these vehicles can be so entertaining, it is easy to forget how dangerous they can be. Even models designed for children can be hazardous if they are not used properly.

Consumer Federation of America reported that there were 498 fatalities in 2023 involving off-highway vehicles. Many involved children 15 years and younger, some as young as 3.

OHVs can be prone to rollovers and crashes, especially when driven at high speeds or on uneven terrain.

Inexperienced riders may misjudge the capability of the OHV or their own ability to operate it safely, result- ing in an accident.

Before allowing a child to ride in or operate an OHV, make sure the child knows the safety rules and the importance of following them.
